The Collection

The Doron Sebbag Art Collection, ORS Ltd. was established in the late 1980’s by Doron Sebbag, a passionate art connoisseur, and comprised of over 1000 Israeli and international contemporary artworks in assorted media. The two major values that have guided Sebbag as a collector throughout the years are the decision to purchase and present contemporary Israeli and international art side by side, and the decision to expose the collection to the public.

During these three decades of extensive activity, works from the collection were on loan to museums in Israel and abroad and diverse theme exhibitions from the collection have been staged. The exhibitions, which presented thematic clusters from the collection at various points in time, reflected- each in its own way- a critical gaze at our society and culture. Also, select works from the collection are presented in the boutique hotel Artist,Tel Aviv (owned by Doron Sebbag familly and managed by Atlas chain), and in ORS branches throughout the country. The extensive philanthropic activity of ORS Ltd. throughout the years in the local art field is manifested in the contribution and support of art schools, various unique projects, publications and exhibition catalogues.

As a collector, Sebbag constantly follows the latest trends by visiting galleries, museums, art fairs, and biennials all over the world. He also keeps up to date through regular reading of professional periodicals and publications. His collecting activity does not stem from a calculated attempt to construct a cohesive or chronological body of works, but rather from a sense of awe vis-à-vis originality and the ability to create and renew. The Collection expresses Sebbag’s attempt to comprehend, identify, and decode—from a large selection of contemporary artworks—those which reflect the zeitgeist and the constantly evolving culture. Hence, the collection functions as an active organism in a never-ending process of becoming and assumed and shed form over the years; it is an infinite pursuit of an object of desire by someone who enjoys the search and research, and vigorously follows new, dynamic approaches in art.
